In partnership with Biogasclean A/S Denmark, T Energy Industries has been providing biological desulphurisation scrubber system for H2S removal from biogas for power generation. Biogasclean is a leading supplier of biological desulphurisation and methanation systems with more than 340 plants in operation or under construction in +40 countries. We have at present more than +350 plants in operation or under construction in +42 countries. Biogasclean supplies clean gas to +700 MW gas engines and boilers and removes sulphur from +35 biogas upgrading unit.

Biogasclean’s H2S Removal Solutions

Biogasclean QSR

The packing media can be cleaned inside the tank with QSR® – Quick Sludge Removal System. The packing sits above the grating .

Biogasclean BASIC

The tank is constructed without grating and the packing media is required to be taken out from the tank for cleaning.

Biogasclean MBR

The tank is specialy developed for ethanol industries where the biogas has high H2S loads (15,000-30,000 ppm).

Technology Highlights

  • 100% Biological Process : Break down H2S by using aerobic microorganism into elementary Sulphur or H2S04 (Sulphuric acid).
  • High Efficiency & Availability : Highest possible methane recovery: >99.9%, able to manage H2S from 0.1% to 3% (1,000 to 30,000 ppm).
  • Low Energy Consumption : Lowest electricity consumption: <0.13 kWh/m3 raw biogas & Net heat consumption: 0.1 – 0.2 kWh/m3 raw biogas.
  • Low Operating Cost : Our systems don’t consume caustic soda nor require frequent media replacement such as iron sponge or activated carbon. The only residue from our process is a valuable liquid fertiliser.
  • No Stringent Biogas Requirement : No need for pretreatment & high pressure of the raw biogas.
  • Low oxygen surplus : Our biological H2S removal systems provide clean gas with a low oxygen surplus. They can be placed before biogas upgrading systems, meeting the requirements for natural gas grid injection and liquefaction.

Key Features

  • Safety : Injection of air into biogas is possible with a control system; without there is a substantial risk of creating dangerous situations with explosive mixture. Therefore, Biogasclean systems are supplied with a control system which will adjust air injection to the actual biogas flow and stop air injection in case there is no biogas flow. If the PTU is closed, the safety system will also remove the ignition source by cutting the power supply in case the gas detector should measure methane above 25% of the Lower Explosive Level (LEL).
  • Automatic reliable operation : Safety is mandatory; but on top of that the control system also secures good performance even with fluctuations in the biogas flow. The system is automatically controlled by the PLC controller board which reduces the risk for manual errors and operation problems. The main function is to provide safe, optimal and stable conditions for the biological process. The signals can be made available in the control room.
  • QSR® system – secures maximum availability : The by-product elemental sulphur will stick to the packing media and has to be removed on a regular basis. Biogasclean’s QSR® – Quick Sludge Removal is required 2-4 times a year. During QSR® cleaning the tank is filled with water and pressurized air is injected in the bottom of the tank so the packing media is washed like in a big washing machine. The QSR® system makes it possible to clean the tank for sulphur sludge without emptying the tank for packing media. This will reduce downtime and increase revenues. In other biological H2S removal systems the packing media has to be moved and cleaned outside the tank. This is a dirty job and will have a huge negative impact on the uptime.
  • Low operating costs : The system uses no chemicals and has a very low electrical consumption. In many projects we use treated water from an anaerobic digester or an aeration pond as scrubber liquid and nutrient source. This is easily accessible and cheaper than water and industrial fertilizer.
